The Lights in Indy (Fade to Black)

by Nicole Westerhouse
(Indianapolis, IN)

You said no more
As the front door slammed shut behind you
You've taken all you're gonna take
After all the pain and suffering
I went through just to find you
How could I not see us start to break?

So insecure
I was so sure
That you'd be leaving me someday
So obsessed
With what I've missed
I never saw you fall away
And now it's too late

Tonight the lights in Indy fade to black
You're moving forward. I look back.
On the regrets I can't forget
This life unlived I can't forgive
This race I've run is winding down
And still the only truth I've found
Is love's the light that lights these grounds
You are my light
But you're not coming back
So tonight in Indy the lights are black

You said enough
There is no love living between us
There's nothing left here to be said
I cried and screamed, you said nothing
Would not believe it if I'd seen us
You led me on to leave me here for dead

So all alone
A heart of stone
Weighs here so heavy in my chest
I'll try to move on
Now that you're gone
If that's what you think is best

But just so you know

Tonight the lights in Indy fade to black
As you walk out, memories come back
When we were fine, when you were mine
When love was strong, when we belonged
I know there's nothing I can say
To make you turn around a stay
But love's the light that guides my way
You are my light
But you're not coming back
So tonight in Indy, the lights are black

Darkness
All I see is darkness
Until you come back
It's all gone black

And I know you're never coming back
So tonight in Indy, the lights are black.
