Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael

by Mike Cregan
(Santa Barbara, CA)

OK, so this is an old war horse, but I am still in awe of the chord changes, the melody, the lyrics and how they all fit together so perfectly. It's a unique tune that is unlike anything before or since--it's not in a mold, it's not from a formula. It is totally original.

Another tune I love is David Pomeranz's "It's in Every One of Us." I love the concept and idea it gets across.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," by Robbie Robertson. This just NAILS the time and likely feeling of the person portrayed in the song as the singer--a soldier from Dixie after the War in such an authentic way.

As far as a Country hit tune, "I Go Back." It just speaks to me very plainly.
