by Shannon Corsi
(Rumson, New Jersey, United States)
Corsi is a 16 year old singer/songwriter/performer from New Jersey. Shannon began her musical journey at age 10 after she happened to meet was a very charismatic vocal coach. Vocal lessons led Shannon to audition for a competitive music program called Rockit! where she performed as the lead vocalist for rock bands for 12 live shows at the historic Count Basie Theater, NJ.
While participating in Rockit, Shannon became friends with keyboardist/arranger/composer Michael Arrom who currently attends The USC Thornton School of Music Pop Program. Michael, while in high school, toured internationally with Steve Vai as well as played in Keith Urbans band at the televised ACA's in Vegas. Shannon and Mike created a duo (Cobalt Blue Duo) and performed original music and covers in venues in NJ (The Stone Pony, ) and NYC including Birdland , The Village Underground and The Bitter End as well as at numerous charity events.
While a freshman in high school Shannon became interested in learning the tools necessary to song write. She focused on theory, piano, reading and creative writing in order to enhance her skills while still training vocally.
During her sophomore year she was one of 25 high school students selected for the NYU Clive Davis Future Music Moguls Program. An intensive 12 week program that introduces talented students to all aspects of the business of music. At that program they select one student to produce a live music show at the famed Bitter End and Shannon was chosen for this. Shannon's responsibilities entailed selecting and meeting with a foundation to benefit (The BMI Foundation) selecting and rehearsing talent, marketing as well as performing in the show. Since then she has produced other local music fundraisers and enjoys the satisfaction of helping other children fulfill their musical dreams.
During last summer, Shannon was also selected to gain a spot in the songwriting tract at the prestigious GRAMMY Camp held in NY. It was there where she worked closely with Chris Sampson (Thornton School of Music) and became inspired more than ever to become the best, most educated writer she can be.
Shannon is a member of the National Honor Society and the Chinese National Honor Society (she speaks Mandarin). She is a member of BMI and NSAI. She works as an instructor (childrens vocal/performance coach) at a Music Academy and is looking to get into a top notch contemporary music program at a university. She will be beginning a training program in Protools shortly and is excited to add this on. She is very excited to attend Durango and looking forward to learning and collaborating with everyone there!
