not any more

by Michael Crawford
(Arlington, Washington, USA)

want to drive my truck
sometimes, way too much luck
feel stuck, too much in the muck
everyone trying to pass the buck

need to find out more
honesty, down to the core
sometimes work so hard, feel so sore
got a strange gift, had to ask what for

not any more
need more
no more
just no more

awoke one morning, in a strange place
not the one I was with, a new face
we need to get together, touch base
moving too fast, feel we are in a race

not any more
need more
no more
just no more

everyone dancing last night, so fast
everyone changing, maybe a new cast
went on so long, how long can the dance last
will there be another date, a dance, had to ask

oh no, car stopped, didn't want to start
shouldn't have stopped at the handy mart
or maybe not run over that shopping cart
time to get the car fixed, get another part

not any more
need more
no more
just no more

the clothes we wore were from the eighties
good thing to do, we once wore clothes from the seventies
time to move up, dress for the nineties
or maybe just wear clothes from the eighties

such a long walk back into town, still night
road so narrow, out in the country, no light
no one awake, no one in sight
road split in different direction, left or right

not any more
need more
no more
just no more

should have stopped
could have dropped
oh no, heard a pop
wine bottle closed, no way to remove the top

lets sing, lets dream
hear what you say, know what you mean
know what you seen
we could be a team
oh, we could be a team

not any more
need more
no more
just no more

not any more
need more
no more
just no more
