Michael Hateley

Michael Hateley has always shown a flair for the uncommon, with his understated approach to producing material for other artists as well as his own honest, spontaneous performances as a composer and recording artist. His guitar work is caught somewhere between the eclectic passion of Daniel Lanois and unmistakable fire of Mick Ronson, while his writing crosses many genres from Contemporary Country and Pop to Indie Rock and beyond.

"I try to meet the passion where it flows and keep myself surprised. I think it's critical to blur the lines and keep the influences fresh no matter what genre I'm writing in."

Born and raised in Southern California, Michael cut his teeth in an award-winning music program that took him into competition at the Reno Jazz Festival seven years in a row and won a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival all before he reached his 17th birthday.

After leaving school and following many years of touring and performing, his song writing began to take on a more mature and soulful approach and feel which led him to signing with Atlantic Records in 1996 as a member of the band Extra Fancy.

His passion for the recording process led him to producing and engineering for a variety of Los Angeles artists and eventually mastering hundreds of projects for many notable major label artists, across a variety of genres.

"My aim is that the heart and hands will always rule the mind and if I've done my job to the best of my abilities, the final experience will be ineffable."

Michael resides in Los Angeles and is performing in two projects (Born In Death Valley and Undersea World) and is also writing with a variety of artists and producers.
