Larry Good – Songwriter, Film Score Composer

Larry Good, Songwriter & Film Composer

Larry Good, Songwriter & Film Composer

Small triumphs and sharp corners have marked Larry Good’s musical career. Having played (briefly) in a band with East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedy’s (welcome newest member Ted) in the 80’s, the same guy turned up to win the Telluride Bluegrass Festival songwriting contest in the 90’s, performing on the main stage two years in a row. Still, he was never really a punk rocker or a bluegrass guy.

Larry opened Jimmy Cliff, Steel Pulse, John Hiatt, Warren Zevon, Little Feat, David Wilcox, John Prine, Blues Traveler and many others, and performed at the H.O.R.D.E. festival, the Jazz Aspen Festival, the High Sierra Festival, and about a thousand bars around the west.

His song “Political Party” as recorded by James Lee Stanley was a chart success in the Bill Clinton election year – breaking the top 100 for the entire year in Cashbox Magazine.

Several touring bands later (Treehouse, ***king Daffodils, the Stinking Badges) Larry turned his focus to film scoring and has maintained this career through several successes and u-turns. And lo! His Musical Composition degree from Stanford University finally came into play.

Another apprenticeship that bears mention is Larry’s time as musical director for the Aspen Ridiculous Theater Company, a group which wrote and staged an entirely new skit and improv show each week. The fast pace and wide range of skills required for this onstage job were a good match, and in its wake came the initial demands for Larry to compose and produce music for film and television.

In 2008 Larry was fortunate enough to take a band into Great Divide Studios and record the basics for three new albums. This musical carpet-bombing approach finally allowed Mr. Good to be all things at once. The results are: “No One’s Gonna Know,” a rock/pop album, “Ted’s Divorce,” a funky, space age bachelor pad lounge opera, “Cinderella in Reverse,” a humbly crafted folk and story-song album, and “Wallpaper,” a collection of Larry Good’s best film score work.

2010 will be an exciting year for Larry, as he will score his first big budget independent film “The Handshake,” and his Young Adult novel “The Magic Mitt” will be crammed through the literary pipeline.

He is looking for an agent that can nurture a career with three good legs.
