Halcyon Days

by John Lyes
(Ohio)

The wind, she's at my back
Thumb out for a ride
The sun, she's stretching 'way on me
Down that long and lonesome road

I'm a beggar, forgotten daydreams
Waiting for the right time to exceed
Got a guitar, few broken heartaches
And several little women in between

These are: my Halcyon days
Betting luck that never pays
And I'm reaping what I sew
So I'll learn from what I know
But it's too late
These are: my Halcyon days
Passing the buck, my blues and grays
I am reaping what I sew
It's a little late

Did ten years for stealing freedom
Sailed the seven seas looking for a way
Found regrets, no other fortunes
I'm a diamond in the rough

Just a game, wandering life
Drifting 'long that lonesome road
Got a guitar, few broken heartaches
And dozen lullaby's I've hardly seen

These are: my Halcyon days
Three legged dog that never stays
And I'm keeping what I stole
So I'll earn from what I don't know
But it's too late
These are: my Halcyon days
Hitting slots until it pays
I am reaping what I sew
It's a little late
Maybe it's fate?
