Les Kahn

Chief Sound Engineer and mixer for the Durango Song Expos since 2004, Les Kahn brings an eclectic and impressive backround of studio and live touring work with artists as diverse as Jimi Hendrix, The Paul Winter Consort, Arlo Guthrie, Ornette Coleman, Pete Seeger, The Guitar Trio (John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco DeLucia), Trio Globo, the Subdudes, and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

Les’ work has garnered several notable awards over the years, including a Gold Album for his work on the Jimi Hendrix album “Crash Landing”, one of several Hendrix albums he co-produced with Alan Douglas for Warner Brothers. In 1993 he won a Grammy Award for recording, mixing, and producing an album of live performances throughout Spain with The Paul Winter Consort entitled “Spanish Angel”. This was followed by a Grammy nomination in 1997 for “Canyon Lullaby”, which was recorded in surround sound in the Grand Canyon.

And most recently, Les received a Grammy for his engineering work on “Acoustic Garden”, the Best New Age Album of 2002 by Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumble.

Les looks forward to every Durango Expo for current insights into the nature of a rapidly changing music industry, a good hit of inspiration as a songwriter, and some great parties!
