Forgotten Daydreams

by Jon Wolotsky
(Chappaqua, NY)

An abandoned city
Stands quiet with no survivors
Until the day I set my feet upon the rubble.
Timeless imprisonment
Traps my soul within it's grasp
I fall upon an empty street and watch
As my heart shatters on the floor.

It's unbelievable
How irresponsible
I've been in protecting my sanity.

I'm unimaginably
Ready to give up willingly
I can't hurt myself like this anymore.

This message is for the skies above
And the earth so far below me
For any everlasting love
And every forgotten daydream.

For the lonely boy with a heartfelt dream
For the parents who stood beside him
For the sheltered girl with a broken past
For the ones she found to confide in.

Waterless oceans
Carry my broken heart
Through their silent tides once more.
Wasted emotions
Scream to me from the distant shore.
They yield their shields and declare
The aging battle, a long forgotten war.

Now I've remarkably
Surrendered knowingly
My tortured mind won't feel this pain no more.

This message is for the skies above
And the earth so far below me
For any everlasting love
And every forgotten daydream.

For the lonely boy with a heartfelt dream
For the parents who stood beside him
For the sheltered girl with a broken past
For the ones she found to confide in.

An abandoned city finds life in a lone survivor.

This message is for the skies above
And the earth so far below me
For any everlasting love
And every forgotten daydream.

For the lonely boy with a heartfelt dream
For the parents who stood beside him
For the sheltered girl with a broken past
For the ones she found to confide in.

He opens his heart to an everlasting love.
And closes his eyes to see his
Forgotten Daydream.
