More Santa Barbara Updates!

Hi Everybody, Jim Attebery here again with some updates about our Expo in Santa Barbara which begins NEXT Thursday, May 31st, and some other important information.

The Santa Ynez Marriott, where the event takes place, has no more guest rooms available at this time. You can always check with them before making other plans, in case they've had some cancellations, but the word from them as of now is that they are FULL.

Fortunately, there are other nice hotels right near by. We have some rooms reserved at the Days Inn, which is just across the highway from the Marriott. (It's kind of a famous place in its own right as it was depicted as the "Windmill Hotel" in the recent hit movie, Sideways. They have a cool little bar with pool tables and are open late. We gravitate over there often after hours. Fun place.)

The Days Inn phone number is 805-688-8448. Be sure to mention that you are with the Durango Songwriters group.

FYI, here is the contact info for the Marriott, where the Expo is held:
555 McMurray Road
Buellton, California 93427 USA
Phone: 805.688.1000
Fax: 805.688.0380
Toll-free: 800.638.8882

IMPORTANT! We have EXTENDED the deadline for submitting material to Showcase until Thursday, May 24th. We MUST RECEIVE your Registration Form and songs by that day if you want to be considered for showcasing.

Expo Address:
300 Waters Way
Durango, CO 81301

Next, due to a scheduling conflict, Santa Barbara resident and hit-songwriter Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket fame will not be able to make this Expo.

Not to worry, we have a boat-load of great talent on hand and we have also added the gifted Grammy winner Bill Champlin to our Saturday night concert. (See Bill's pic and bio below.)

And of course with all of the industry folks coming, and with both the great Chuck Cannon AND Tony Scalzo-Miles Zuniga (from Fastball) EACH doing a songwriting workshop, well, the Wine Country Expo will be as special as always!

Don't forget the Wednesday night (the 30th) "Early Bird" meet and greet or "Expo Goes to Town" as we sometimes call it.

It will be held at: DARGANS IRISH PUB & RESTAURANT
18 E. Ortega St.
Santa, Barbara, CA 93101
Phone: 805.568.0702

We will be there from about 6-9pm. If you are in town early or are local, PLEASE come join us. It's always a lot of fun and gives us yet another chance to network and have a little one-on-one time with our many great musical friends!

Please note once again that the Nashville Showcase we offer the THIRD Monday of each month, hosted by the wonderful Amanda Williams and DurangoSong.com's mrJack (Jack Hayford), has MOVED back to the Blue Bar on Broadway. It kicks off at around 9pm and is ALWAYS a blast and a great place to showcase your songs and meet industry people.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS to Kelly Garrett (Country) and Richard Harris (Pop), winners in our 2007 Write with a Hit-Maker Songwriting Contest. They'll be on hand and will each get to WRITE with a hit songwriter! Very cool.

Remember, the Santa Barbara Expo May 31 - June 2, 2007 is coming right up! Better get registered!

Welcome Aboard Bill Champlin!

"[Bill Champlin] is known the world over as the soulful singer/keyboardist of the iconic jazz-pop band Chicago. His featured spots on the hits 'Look Away' and 'Hard Habit to Break' are among his mainstream highlights. But Bill Champlin’s defining work with the Sons of Champlin and as a songwriter put him on the musical map long before he arrived in Chicago. Bill and the Sons were blowing the doors off venues back in the ’70s — and they returned to doing the same in the late ’90s and into the present." —Greg Rule, Keyboard Magazine

Bill has worked with such luminaries as Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls, Elton John, Boz Scaggs, Donna Summer, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, Jimmy Smith, Amy Grant, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers. In 1978 he released SINGLE, his first solo album. In 1979 he won his first Grammy award for co-writing "After the Love is Gone," which was a made a hit by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Visit Bill's official website.

What is DurangoSong.com?

Not everyone can join us in Durango each year to be educated and inspired by our panelists and hit songwriters. But every songwriter can now have access to the next-best thing -- DurangoSong.com -- and benefit from many of the same resources provided each year at the Durango Songwriters Expo.

DS.com offers Members a chance to hear writers, publishers, producers, managers and executives who decide what songs and artists make it to the big leagues.

Annually, we record the EXPO Panel Discussions and make them available in our subscription-based DurangoSong.com Backstage. If you can't make it to the EXPO in person, you can still get the same information from our ever-growing library of recorded discussions, as well as songwriter interviews and other special features.

Got a Website? Special Request from the EXPO—

If you've been marketing yourself and your music through a website, no doubt you already know the importance of "back-links" (how many websites, and their popularity, link to YOU) in gaining high search engine rankings and growing your traffic.

Let's help each other by exchanging links! (Our website is now in the top 10% of all sites on the web, ranked under 500,000 -- out of over 50 million. It will help increase your traffic and ranking to have a link to you from us!)

If you are interested in exchanging links, please link to:

Then send us an email with YOUR link either by using the Contact Us Form, or sending an email to info@durangosong.com.
