DSE Meet and Greet Tonight in Denver!
August 22, 2011
"If I could only say one thing to describe the Durango Expo experience, it would be this. After being a professional writer for almost 20 years, it unfortunately gets harder and harder to be impressed by music in general. But at each Durango event Iíve attended, I had specific moments of listening to Artist showcases & Pro/Legends Writers rounds that gave me this old familiar feeling in my chest and reminded me of why I wanted to be a songwriter in the very beginning. That inspiration, for me, is worth everything." --Trina Harmon, Hit Songwriter and The Artist Coach

Good News! We've Added Film/TV to WWAHM!LESS THAN 30 DAYS LEFT TO ENTER OUR 2011-2 WWAHM CONTEST! DON'T MISS THIS FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE WITH A HIT-MAKER OR GET YOUR SONGS PLACED IN FILM OR TV!
"The song 'Tough Times' written by Scott Miller and me, both longtime DSE attendees, won first place and hit a home run in the NSAI 'Hitsville' contest in April 2011, which got us a contract for that song with 'ole.' I then did some re-writing for them, and they did a nice new demo of the song, and are currently pitching it to major label artists in Nashville...We are so grateful to the DSE playing a huge role in this process as we brought it there for feedback and critiques and played it live etc...several times! We got some really good feedback, and also made some more updates and polishing due to that feedback. We are looking forward to the fall expo, bringing more new songs also! We are both so thankful to be able to attend the DSE!!! You guys have such a cool event, we cant thank you enough for providing these amazing opportunities, to meet new friends and co-writers, networking, pitching, performing, learning how to work, work, work, improve, improve, improve and polish, polish, polish, rinse and repeat!!!" --Lee Johnson (Winner of WWAHM 2010-1)
Good News! We have added a Film/TV category to the 2011-2 WWAHM Contest. Two prominent music supervisors will be judging your songs and picking a winner. Of course, they are also looking for songs for projects!
Jessica Garey is the head of Firefly Music, a Nashville-based film/tv pitching company. Prior to that she worked in film/tv music supervision with Lindsay Wolfington (One Tree Hill, Smallville). One of her artists, Adam Agin, placed a song in Vampire Diaries at the Durango Film/TV Expo in May 2011. She's getting traction!
Mike Swartz is the head of Denver/Nashville-based film/tv pitching company, One Louder Creative. Prior to that he worked at Universal Music Publishing in LA and Songs Music also in LA. He has an extensive background in film/tv and music publishing.
NOTE: YOU MUST ENTER YOUR SONG(S) IN EITHER THE POP OR COUNTRY CATEGORY. THEN EMAIL JACK@DURANGOSONG.COM WITH WHICH SONG(s) ARE TO BE MOVED INTO FILM/TV SECTION.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS PLEASE SUBMIT THEM USING THE FAQ FORM HERE SO THAT EVERYONE CAN GET THEIR QUESTIONS ANSWERED IN A TIMELY MANNER. THANK YOU!
OK songwriters we are now LIVE WITH WWAHM 2011-2!
Just a few preliminary notes:
--There are THREE CATEGORIES, POP, COUNTRY, and FILM/TV for this contest.
Note--You must create a login name and password to enter any of our contests. (We make a workspace in the cloud for all entrants. You can start a submission, save it, and come back to it later to finish--without finalizing payment.) This is important because many times entrants wish to change their song or category before submitting. It's a very unique and helpful feature!
We are extremely excited about the two hit songwriters who have agreed to co-write with our winners. Keith Follese (over 200 cuts with major artists!) is one of the most successful songwriters in Nashville and Vince Melamed is an iconic country/rock piano player and songwriter. He's played with everyone including Dylan, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffet and many more, and co-authored the legendary duet by Don Henley and Trisha Yearwood, "Walkaway Joe" (written with Greg Barnhill, also a past Expo participant). As usual the Expo has attracted top mentors to co-write with the winners!
